Although Rwanda might be most infamous for its horrific past, it has come a long way and developed into a peaceful, productive country. A trip to the genocide memorial will tear at your heartstrings and stay with you forever.

The Ark

Room Type: Single, Double, Triple

The lodge, built to appear like a modern day Noah’s Ark, overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, which attracts a host of wildlife. From one of the four viewing decks, it is possible to relax and watch animals come and go including elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, bushbuck, waterbuck, warthog, hyena and dik dik. You might be lucky enough to spot one of the more elusive nocturnal creatures like giant forest hog, porcupine, serval or genet.

There are three viewing decks with balconies and lounges to provide superb game viewing from the comfort of the lodge, and also a ground-level hide where you can get up close to the animals.

The Ark is accessed from the Aberdare Country Club, where you will have lunch, before proceeding to the Aberdare National Park. The ‘cabin-style’ rooms all been recently renovated and have ensuite bathroom. Each room is fitted with a buzzer so that you can choose to be buzzed in the night if a particular animal comes to the waterhole. The bar is open throughout the night serving tea and coffee for those who don’t want to miss a minute of the action.

So basically you can just relax, and the animals will come to you!
