Is Nairobi really that scarey?
You might be surprised to find that Nairobi does not live up to its 'Nairobery' reputation. While we always recommend that visitors take sensible precautions, including not wandering around after dark, but generally you can go about your business without concern.

What is the best way to pay for things?
This is a difficult one ot give a straight answer. In main cities and towns you will find ATMs which may or may not work for you. This is normally the easiest way to get Kenyan Shillings. Throughout your travels you will probably have an opportunity to pay with local currency, US dollars and Euro. As more operators are loosing confidence in the US$, many are now preferring payment in Euro. Most will accept local currency even if their prices are in US$ or Euro. Credit/debit cards are becoming more widely accepted, although you will usually have to pay a 5-15% fee on top of your purchase. If you wish to exchange money you will need to find a foreign exchange, not a bank. Again these are available in most cities and large towns.

Do I book a safari before I come or when I arrive?
This will totally depend on the time of year? If you are wanting to stay somewhere or do something particular, then we would suggest booking ahead. Also if you are pressed for time, you can spend a lot of time researching locally. However it can be fun to just arrive and see where the wind takes you. During the high season (July-September and December-February) it can be easy to join a pre-booked group and save some money.
