6 Day Masai Mara & Lake Nakuru

Day 1: Nairobi – Lake Nakuru National Park

Depart Nairobi at 08:00 heading north for approximately a three-hour drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. On route you can stop for views of the Great Rift Valley, Mount Longonot, Lake Naivasha and Lake Elementaita.  You will arrive at Lake Nakuru for a day game driving, stopping for lunch at a view point. Late afternoon proceed to your accommodation for dinner and overnight. Lake Nakuru is famous for the thousands of flamingo that inhabit the shores of the lake. The park has been successful in housing many endangered species including black and white rhino, Rothchild giraffe and the elusive leopard - all of which are frequently seen on game drives. You can spot these along with buffalo, lion, zebra, waterbuck, gazelle, impala, hyrax and hippo.

Day 2: Nakuru - Masai Mara

After breakfast, depart Nakuru for the Masai Mara. Initially you will head south towards Naivasha, then turn west along the floor of the Great Rift Valley. You will stop in the Maasai town of Narok to fuel the vehicle and purchase any supplies needed. After a stop for lunch, proceed to the Masai Mara Game Reserve where you will enjoy an afternoon game drive before returning to your accommodation for dinner and overnight. And don’t forget the Masai Mara is not fenced and that you can look out for animals not long after departing Narok. The Masai Mara Conservancy supports extensive wildlife and is a migration corridor to other parks.

Day 3: Masai Mara Reserve

Enjoy a full day game viewing with picnic lunch on the Mara River over-looking the Hippo Pools and the Serengeti. One of Kenya’s premier reserves, the Masai Mara is an extension of the Serengeti and world famous for the spectacular migration of thousands of wildebeest and zebra during the months of July and October. The Mara is also rich in resident game with over 95 species recorded including the ‘Big Five’ - elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino - as well as giraffe, cheetah, hyena and numerous species of antelope. The Reserve is also rich in birdlife with over 480 species. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Masai Mara Reserve - Masai Mara Conservancy

After breakfast, enter the reserve for your last morning game drive. At around 10:30, you will depart and drive to the Maasai village where you will be hosted for the next two nights at a bush camp near a Maasai Village. After lunch at the bush camp, you can take part in village life, or enjoy walking in the conservancy. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Masai Mara Conservancy walk with Maasai

Wake for breakfast and spend the day with Maasai warriors and their family. You can discover everything you need to know about this traditional and colourful tribe. There are beautiful walks to take from the camp, and you can also spend time in the village being involved in daily life. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Masai Mara Conservancy – Nairobi

Wake for breakfast and enjoy the mornings’ activities at the Maasai village and surrounding conservation area. Late morning depart for Nairobi stopping for lunch enroute. You will arrive in Nairobi around 17:00.
